Warm Tracks

Warm Tracks

f/3.5, 1/80, ISO-100, 50mm

I rarely take photos of railroad tracks. It’s a decades-old prejudice that I won’t go into detail about here. But since the function of the tracks in this case is to accentuate the foreground, I let myself get away with it this one time. This is another shot taken at Effigy Mounds, just a few minutes before the shot posted yesterday. I really like the effect of the morning sun shining on autumn leaves. I did a lot of this sort of thing last year at this time too, but I think my composition has gotten a lot better over the year.

One of the things that I struggle with, and which I think I was unusually successful with in this shot, is replicating a sense of the depth of the scene that I was looking at. I think the ISO in this case does a perfect job of taking the background out of focus but not blurred out of recognizable  shapes, lending a good sense of depth perception to the image.
