A seasonal challenge of shooting in Iowa is that there can be an extended period of time when the only color to be seen is brown. Until I became a photographer I never wished for snow, but snow at least provides blues and reflections of other colors in the vicinity.
However, the monotone of the season provides a good opportunity to challenge oneself with making photos more interesting than they might have been when actually on the scene. I’ll be trying out a few different methods in the next few days.
This is my first attempt. Rather than suffer the browns of the reality of this scene, I removed color and added grain, preferring instead to create a vintage mood that underscores the mood of an out-of-the-way country cemetery.
