PSSSSS!

PSSSSS!

f/18, 1/160, ISO-100, 18mm

I like the idea of this photo more than the execution of it, really. The river looks like it’s steaming hot, but it’s actually just fog lifting on a cool morning. The shutter was fast enough that it “froze” the mist rather than softening it like a longer exposure would do (and which is very tempting whenever getting a water or moisture shot). But a long exposure would I think have lost the steam effect and given a softer, misty feel that I’m glad, for this shot, I avoided.

On the other hand, I’m not pleased with the color at all. I wanted something with more warmth to it to compliment the steam effect. But no matter how I tried, every attempt at warming the image made it come off looking unnatural. I even tried going for black and white, but the effect was totally lost with that. So this is the best my processing skills can do for now. I’m not totally displeased with it, but I can’t help feeling like an opportunity was lost.

  1. I like it. I also like that I always learn something when I read your posts. And I have so much to learn when it comes to photography techniques. Thanks for sharing your process.

    • Thank you. That is one of the nicest things I’ve ever been told. I don’t really feel all the knowledgeable and I worry sometimes I’m just being pretentious with my posts :-)
