Autumn Challenge
Now that I’ve been doing photography for a couple of years, I’ve come to recognize there are some annual themes that it’s both a challenge and a joy to revisit. The colors of autumn are one of the most exciting and rewarding.
The challenge, for me, is finding ways to represent the season that are both beautiful and at least somewhat unique. I enjoy a good landscape of colorful trees as the next person, but I like to try to show the world to you in a way you may not have seen it before.
On my way home from work today I noticed colorful leaves blown into a nearby chain link fence, and I immediately wondered how it would look after dark, lit only by my flash. There are so many things about this that tell me about the season. The dried leaves, so pretty in their autumn colors. The suggestion of a blustery day as cooler and stronger winds leave us all turning our collars against the chill. And the harsh blue of the chain link, suggesting to me the ice and snow that will shortly be upon us.
I love this time of year.
